Two weeks of madness, inspiration, and art.
It all started with a lovely conversation with artist Sally Annett, who approached me with an opportunity for a collaborative exhibition titled Alchemy: Divine Femininity before Christmas. Despite the tight timeline and my initial hesitation, I agreed in a moment of madness—a leap of faith that would soon ignite a creative spark I hadn’t tapped into in years.
Typically, I create my portraits through crochet—a medium I deeply love and am known for. But with less than two weeks to prepare, I had to adapt. This time constraint turned out to be the perfect catalyst to try something new. I decided to embrace painting, a discipline that has always intrigued me but one I hadn’t explored with the same intensity as my crochet work.
The exhibition theme, Alchemy: Divine Femininity, resonated with me profoundly. It challenged me to interpret the idea of transformation, the hidden power behind the veil, and the sacred essence of femininity through my work. Over these two weeks, I immersed myself in the process, allowing the concept to guide my brushstrokes and compositions. The result was a series of paintings that feel like a bridge between my textile work and this newfound medium.
The pieces I created for this exhibition reflect both vulnerability and strength, exploring layers of identity and the mystical energy that surrounds the feminine experience. My approach to painting mirrored my crochet process in some ways, with a focus on intricate details, texture, and blending—but the freedom of paint allowed for a new kind of expression.
This collaboration with Sally Annett has been transformative. Not only did it push me out of my comfort zone, but it also reignited a passion for painting that I plan to nurture further. The vernissage on December 6 was a beautiful celebration of creativity and connection, bringing together a range of works inspired by alchemy and femininity.
This experience has reminded me of the importance of saying yes to new opportunities, even when they seem daunting. Sometimes, it’s the moments of madness that lead to the most growth.
Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to explore this new chapter in my artistic journey. For now, I’m thrilled to share these works and hope they inspire others to embrace transformation and creativity in their own lives.
